September–October 2026: Find the Right Concept More Easily

Spend less time searching and more time building, with better concept matches, clearer usage insights, and improvements across every OMOPHub SDK.

Finding the right medical concept should be the easy part of your workflow. This September and October, we’ve improved search, made everyday tasks more reliable, and given you a clearer picture of how you use OMOPHub.

Better matches, less searching

When you search for diabetes, you want the clinical concept you can use. Search now does a better job of bringing those concepts to the top, with fewer questionnaire answers and terminology fragments in the way.

It’s also easier to find a concept using the words you already know:

  • Use familiar shorthand. Common abbreviations such as COPD and MI follow documented clinical meanings.
  • Find terms by their alternative names. Search includes published synonyms, including other languages where they’re available in the vocabulary.
  • Worry less about wording. “Crohn disease” recognizes “Crohn’s disease,” and “chest x-ray” finds the published synonym “X-ray of chest.”

When you already have a code, exact searches put the original concept alongside its standard OMOP match where one is available, making the next step easier to find.

Natural-language search with more useful results

Natural-language search now makes better choices when several concepts are almost equally relevant. For example, searching for T2DM brings the standard SNOMED concept for Type 2 diabetes mellitus ahead of a closely matched non-standard source concept.

Results also give a clearer indication when you’re seeing only part of the matches, helping you decide when to keep exploring. For complete code lists, use OMOPHub’s mapping and hierarchy tools.

Smoother everyday workflows

We’ve addressed the details that can interrupt a project:

  • More dependable filters. Narrow your search by vocabulary or concept relationships, with result counts that better reflect your choices.
  • More resilient batch jobs. An invalid search item can report its own error while the other searches continue.
  • Easier concept exploration. Follow clearer paths between concepts and find their closest parents and children first.
  • Better FHIR compatibility. Code translations respect your chosen destination vocabulary, and terminology responses preserve language information.

We’ve also improved broader text searches and made our API documentation easier to use with browser-based tools.

A clearer picture of your usage

The dashboard now gives you a more useful view of requests, response times, errors, and your busiest endpoints for the period you choose.

Your monthly allowance is shown in the context of the month or billing cycle it belongs to, helping you see how much you’ve used and plan what comes next.

Updates for your preferred tools

Whether you work in Python, R, or JavaScript, the latest published SDK updates make it easier to explore similar concepts and understand when more results are available.

Our MCP server gives AI assistants clearer guidance about additional results, helping them continue exploring when the first page isn’t the whole picture.

Latest published versions as of October 29:

ClientVersion
Python1.9.1
R1.9.1
Node.js / TypeScript1.1.1
MCP Server1.6.3

We’re also preparing improvements to typeahead suggestions, code lookups, and R workflows. Those changes are in the GitHub source and are not yet included in the published packages above.

More freedom for bigger projects

Pro, Scale, and Business customers now have more flexibility to use their monthly API allowance, with plan-based rate limits removed. Read the separate announcement for details.

A note for existing integrations

Search scoring and mapping responses have changed. Applications using search-score thresholds may need adjustments, and mapping responses no longer include confidence fields. See the search reference and mapping reference for the details.
